Medical Receptionist / Front Desk

Responsible for greeting patients when they check in/out and providing excellent customer/patient services. Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed information including personal and financial information. Provides basic clerical tasks such as answering phones and scheduling appointments in a professional and timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years minimum experience in a medical practice. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. 

Job Duties

  • Registers patients in MedEnt and collect updated registration forms
  • Collects identification and insurance cards and copies them for the record
  • Prints encounter forms and daily schedules
  • Has patient sign financial agreement, receipt of privacy policy, benefits assignment, etc
  • Answers phone calls, takes messages and schedules appointments
  • Forwards calls requesting medical advice, prescription refills, surgery information or billing questions to appropriate department
  • Directs visitors appropriately and obtains any necessary Business Associate Agreements not on file
  • Checks eligibility on each patient for the follow business day
  • Pulls medical record and any necessary forms for the next business day
  • Call patients to remind them of upcoming appointments
  • Complete and fax documents to PCP/referring physicians as needed
  • Verify all vision insurance patients have coverage
  • Assists LASIK patients with completing necessary survey form
  • Distribute daily faxes and correspondence to appropriate individual
  • Maintain patient files by filing new correspondence, laboratory reports and surgery reports
  • File patient charts daily
  • Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times
  • Adhere to employer work practices as described in the Laser Eye Surgery of Erie Exposure Plan policy
  • Work as a team member within the department and office as a whole.
  • Travel to satellite office locations as necessary
  • Document work processes as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
