Dr. Haverly
Robert F. Haverly, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Robert F. Haverly specializes in refractive (LASIK/PRK), cataract and complex surgeries including those for glaucoma, corneal and retinal pathology. He was the first surgeon in Erie to perform LASIK as well as “all laser” LASIK. Currently, he utilizes iDesign® with Wavefront Technology and iFS (blade free) Intralase technology for LASIK, and iDesign® with advanced Wavefront Technology for state-of-the-art PRK treatment. He was the first surgeon in Erie to perform DSEK (corneal transplant), placement of glaucoma seton valves, and is the only surgeon in the area to perform corneal cross-linking to treat keratoconus.
Dr. Haverly performs Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery using LenSx ® laser technology as well as goniotomies and iStent® surgery for the treatment of cataracts and glaucoma. Dr. Haverly is a principle investigator for numerous clinical trials including new corneal procedures such as corneal cross-linking (CXL), new glaucoma medications, dry eye treatment, and advancements in intraocular lenses for cataract surgery. These studies are evaluated by the FDA for approval in clinical practice.
He is a graduate of Cornell University, where he majored in neurobiology and was an active member of the honor society. He graduated magna cum laude and received thesis honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. Dr. Haverly completed an internal medicine internship at this institute and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Haverly was elected to be the chief resident in his last year. He won several awards for outstanding research at the University of Texas. Dr. Haverly also completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and has published several scientific articles and some book chapters in the field of ophthalmology.
After residency, Dr. Haverly became clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas and joined the San Antonio Eye Center. In 1998, Dr. Haverly moved to Erie, Pennsylvania to be closer to his family and joined Laser Eye Surgery of Erie. He was the chief of ophthalmology at the Saint Vincent Surgery Center from 2005 to 2011. Dr. Haverly has received numerous awards for outstanding surgery. He has been voted in the top 100 refractive surgeons nationwide every year since 1999. Laser Eye Surgery of Erie has been voted one of the top 50 LASIK/PRK practices in the country numerous times over the years. Dr. Haverly was an editor of the cornea and external disease section for EyeNet journal which is the journal for the American Academy of Ophthalmology from 2010 to 2014. Dr. Haverly is currently a research editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery which focuses on LASIK, PRK, SMILE, and cataract surgery.
Dr. Haverly is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Member of the Pennsylvania Ophthalmology Society, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Erie County Medical Society (past president).
Dr. Hilinski
CARRIE HILINSKI, O.D.
Dr. Carrie Hilinski specializes in primary care optometry with special interests in contact lenses, ocular diseases, and refractive surgery.
An Erie native, Dr. Hilinski attended Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College for 3 years before attending the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, PA, where she graduated in May 2022. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. Her externships were focused on contact lenses, primary care optometry, and medical optometry in a primary care and Veterans Affairs (VA) setting. Dr. Hilinski is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. She moved back to Erie, Pennsylvania after school to be closer to her family and the snow. Outside of work, Dr. Hilinski enjoys visiting amusement parks, going ziplining, and crafting.
