I was diagnosed with nearsightedness and astigmatism in my teens. Although I tried to choose frames for my glasses that “reflected my personality”, I was always bothered and annoyed that I had to have them sitting on my face. In the summer, they were hot; I always had a red arch on the bridge of my nose and they hid what I always thought to be my most attractive feature – my blue eyes. I never needed correction for reading or any up-close work which, considering I am an avid reader and a school teacher, was at least half my life. So, the glasses would be on-off-on-off – all day, every day. I had to take them off to write my lesson plans, to read a menu, to dial a cell phone, to pay my bills. It was an aggravation I endured for over 40 years of my life. I tried contacts the minute they were invented – and kept trying every new brand – never really able to call them “comfortable”. Plus, like the glasses, I had to keep taking them off and on, too. I was so disappointed when Lasik vision correction was first developed but for years could not correct for the amount of astigmatism I have. Now, however, the technology is not only capable of essentially eliminating my astigmatism but, also, of giving me the option for LASIK MONOVISION which I chose without hesitation. Since having the surgery in September of 2012, my life has changed dramatically. No more on-off routine, no more sweaty frames or red arches and I can actually show off my blue eyes without anything covering them up! Now I go from driving to reading a menu to watching television to reading my favorite book before bed – with clear constant vision, near or far. And no more astigmatism! My vision is better now than it has ever been in my life. Plus my life has a few less hassles and annoyances, which is always a good thing! MONOVISION LASIK surgery is one of the best things I’ve done for ME in my life – not one regret!— Georgann S.
