This causes ‘static’ in your vision and can result in significant visual impairment\. - [Retinal Surgery](https://www.erielasereye.com/additional-service/retinal-surgery/): The retina is a thin sheet of nerve tissue in the back of the eye where light rays are focused and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve\. Tiny blood vessels supply the retina with oxygen and other nutrients\. Arteries deliver the blood, and veins carry it out\. - [Corneal Transplants](https://www.erielasereye.com/additional-service/corneal-transplants/): \Corneal transplants are required for a number of corneal diseases and a variety of other reasons\. Before and after transplant, you will need ongoing information and support\. You do not need to go through the corneal transplant surgery and recovery alone\. Our cornea surgery experts located in Erie, can help you understand what you will be facing with DSAEK, DMEK or traditional corneal transplant surgery, Penetrating Keratoplasty \(PKP\)\.\ \Prior to the patient’s surgery, the surgeon will prepare for surgery by determining the type of tissue to be used and selecting the technique needed to ensure the best surgical outcomes possible\. The patient will begin pre\-operative medications three days prior to surgery as instructed\. The patient must not eat anything after midnight the day before surgery\. On the day of surgery, the patient will arrive at the surgery center approximately one hour prior to surgery for preparation\. In the operating room, the patient will be receiving anesthesia for relaxation and numbing medicine\.\ \DSAEK and DMEK are performed through a small incision on the side of the cornea\. DSAEK and DMEK involve peeling the diseased endothelial layer from the back of the cornea and leaving the healthy remainder intact \(approximately 95%\)\. Then, healthy corneal tissue \(called a donor disc\) is placed inside the eye through a small incision and positioned with an air bubble in the place of the diseased layer\. Two or three stitches may be needed to close the initial incision\. Surgery typically lasts 1 hour\. At the end of the procedure, you stay lying on your back for another 40 minutes\. You are then sent home with an eye patch\. You will be directed to use eye drops frequently after the surgery\. These are typically reduced at an appropriate time period following surgery\. Visual recovery can change with each patient but usually takes three to six weeks for recovery\.\ \Please be advised that you might need a different prescription in your glasses or contact lenses to enhance your vision\.\ - [Glaucoma](https://www.erielasereye.com/additional-service/glaucoma/): \Although glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in Americans, early detection can prevent you from losing your eyesight\. In the healthy eye, a clear fluid called aqueous \(pronounced AY\-kwee\-us\) humor circulates inside the front portion of your eye\. To maintain a constant healthy eye pressure, your eye continually produces a small amount of aqueous humor while an equal amount of this fluid flows out of your eye\. If you have glaucoma, the aqueous humor does not flow out of the eye properly\. Fluid pressure in the eye builds up and, over time, causes damage to the optic nerve fibers\.\ - [PTK and Amniotic Tissue Graft](https://www.erielasereye.com/additional-service/ptk-amnio-graft/) ## Testimonials - [Jessica Sperry](https://www.erielasereye.com/testimonial/jessica-sperry/) - [JR Johnson](https://www.erielasereye.com/testimonial/jr-johnson/) - [Aleksey Balabanov](https://www.erielasereye.com/testimonial/aleksey-balabanov/) - [Troy Schwab](https://www.erielasereye.com/testimonial/troy-schwab/) - [Shane Uber](https://www.erielasereye.com/testimonial/shane-uber/) ## Career Opportunities - [Optician](https://www.erielasereye.com/career-opportunity/medical-receptionist-front-desk-2-2-2/) - [Surgical Scheduler](https://www.erielasereye.com/career-opportunity/medical-receptionist-front-desk-2-2-2-2/) - [Billing Specialist](https://www.erielasereye.com/career-opportunity/medical-receptionist-front-desk-2/) - [Ophthalmology Technician](https://www.erielasereye.com/career-opportunity/medical-receptionist-front-desk-2-2/) - [Medical Receptionist / Front Desk](https://www.erielasereye.com/career-opportunity/medical-receptionist-front-desk/) ## Categories - [News](https://www.erielasereye.com/category/news/) - [Eye Health](https://www.erielasereye.com/category/eye-health/) - [Blog](https://www.erielasereye.com/category/blog/) - [Erie PA](https://www.erielasereye.com/category/erie-pa/) - [Ophthalmology](https://www.erielasereye.com/category/ophthalmology/) ## Tags - [Laser Eye Surgery of Erie](https://www.erielasereye.com/tag/laser-eye-surgery-of-erie/) - [eye health](https://www.erielasereye.com/tag/eye-health/) - [healthy eyes](https://www.erielasereye.com/tag/healthy-eyes/) - [Erie PA](https://www.erielasereye.com/tag/erie-pa/) - [LASIK](https://www.erielasereye.com/tag/lasik/) ## Type - [layout](https://www.erielasereye.com/layout_type/layout/) - [section](https://www.erielasereye.com/layout_type/section/) - [row](https://www.erielasereye.com/layout_type/row/) - [module](https://www.erielasereye.com/layout_type/module/) ## Module Width - [regular](https://www.erielasereye.com/module_width/regular/) ## Scope - [not\_global](https://www.erielasereye.com/scope/not_global/) - [global](https://www.erielasereye.com/scope/global/) ## Type - [et\_code\_snippet\_html\_js](https://www.erielasereye.com/et_code_snippet_type/et_code_snippet_html_js/) ## Optional - [Sitemap index](https://www.erielasereye.com/sitemap_index.xml)
