On November 30, 2011 Dr. Robert Haverly was installed as the 137th President of the Erie County Medical Society. He has taken the gavel from Dr. Christoper Clark.
The Erie County Medical Society is a professional association with a purpose to"position physicians to lead and shape health care delivery to assure that the evolving system provides quality and value to patients and the community".
Dr. Haverly volunteers his time to support the non-profit organization"Sheltering the Community". In 2011, the volunteers took part in the first healthy living night for residents of The Refuge Homeless Shelter and The Hope House Apartments to offer free in home health screenings. This is an ongoing event.

Also in 2010 and 2011, Dr. Haverly also took part in a free Health Fair organized by the Erie County Medical Society to educate the community, especially the underinsured and uninsured, on common medical conditions and preventive care as well as provide screenings for general health problems. The overall purpose was to create a foundation to fund education and patient advocacy programs.
