Dr. Haverly specializes in refractive, cataract, glaucoma and corneal transplant surgery. He was the first surgeon in the Erie area to perform the LASIK procedure and he has performed thousands of LASIK procedures. Dr. Haverly was the first surgeon in the Erie area performing wavefront-guided LASIK – also known as custom LASIK.
Dr. Haverly was the first and only surgeon in Erie to perform "all Laser" lasik using the intralase laser. He was the first surgeon in Erie to perform DSEK as well as placement of glaucoma seton valves. Dr. Haverly is the principle investigator for numerous clinical trails of glaucoma medications and advancement in eye surgery. These studies evaluate medicines for FDA approval.

Dr. Haverly is a graduate of Cornell University, where he majored in neurobiology, and was an active member of the honor society. He graduated magna cum laude and received thesis honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. Dr. Haverly completed an internal medicine internship at this institute, and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Haverly was the chief resident in his last year. He won several awards for outstanding research at the University of Texas. Dr. Haverly has published several scientific articles and some book chapters in the field of ophthalmology.
After residency, Dr. Haverly became clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas and joined the San Antonio Eye Center. In 1998, Dr. Haverly moved to Erie, Pennsylvania to be closer to his family and joined Laser Eye Surgery of Erie. He is the chief of ophthalmology at the Saint Vincent Surgery Center. Dr. Haverly has received numerous awards for outstanding surgery. He has been voted in the top 100 refractive surgeons nationwide every year since 1999. In 2003 and 2004, Laser Eye Surgery of Erie was voted one of the top 50 LASIK/PRK practices in the country.
Dr. Haverly is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Member of the Pennsylvania Ophthalmology Society, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Erie County Medical Society. Currently Dr. Haverly is the Vice President of the Erie County Medical Society.
